How have you been feeling?
There are many reasons to come into therapy. I specialize in issues with mood and I specialize in issues with trauma both recent and historical. Issues with mood can typically be seen as feelings of anxiety, depression, low mood or mood swings, this can include a bipolar diagnosis. There are many different ways an affected mood can play out in life. You or your child may be trying to manage deep painful emotions, outbursts of anger, feelings of emptiness, low motivation, lethargy or restless energy. It may result in difficulty making decisions, issues relating to others, feeling dependent on others, having difficulty saying no or asking for help, perfectionism, rigidity or black and white thinking.
For those who have a history or a recent trauma they are dealing with, many of the symptoms are similar to those with issues with mood. The difference is typically that symptoms relating to trauma tend to last longer, have an increased sense of depth and be more difficult to get relief from. We sometimes call this “treatment resistant.” I have been trained in therapies that help those more resistant symptoms as well as help address the trauma, when a client is ready.
